Rihanna is Angry with Snapchat
Snapchat offended Rihanna by publishing the ad on Twitter that made light of her domestic violence situation with Chris Brown. They published an ad on their site for a game called “Would You Rather?” that gave users the option to rather slap Rihanna or punch Chris Brown.
Since Rihanna is a famous music artist, many of her fans were appalled by the ad. Rihanna thought it was tasteless and posted a response that stated, “I’d love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain’t that dumb!” as part of her comment. She believes that Snapchat’s advertisement makes fun of domestic violence victims including the men, women, and children that are still dealing with the situation. Snapchat has declared the advertisement an error and has apologized to Rihanna twice, but she does not want an apology. The ad has cost their stock to go down 4% and caused them to lose $800 million.
Rihanna is a popular singer, songwriter, and actress and has a net worth of $245 million. She has produced many songs including Umbrella, Diamonds and Work and has sold over 230 million records worldwide. She has won many awards including Grammy’s, American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. She was also awarded the American Music Award for Icon and the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. She has a beauty line called Fenty beauty a line that creates cosmetics for all skin types and complexions. Her Fenty beauty line has a net worth of $72 million and is sold worldwide.
Even though Snapchat is a famous multimedia messaging app, the advertisement that they posted about Rihanna’s physical assault caused the company to lose profits. They offer users the opportunity to take pictures and send messages that are posted for a short amount of time then deleted. Many people use it to share photos with virtual stickers and as a form of augmented reality. The company was founded by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown during their attendance at Stanford University. They have a net worth of 3.8 billion and more than 187 million users.
Snapchat’s advertisement mocking domestic violence has disappointed users. They have lost many fans and plenty of money due to their poor ad choice.
