Screen Junkies has released an honest trailer for Disney’s Zootopia. The 3D animated movie was a surprise hit for Disney when it was released earlier in the year, receiving a weekend opening of over $73 million. Zootopia managed to garner high praise from both critics and audiences alike.
The film stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps, an anthropomorphic bunny who teams up with a sly fox (voiced by Jason Bateman) in order to uncover a conspiracy within the multi-species city of Zootopia. Zootopia’s massive success naturally received notice from Screen Junkies, the online YouTube channel that parodies popular movies through their Honest Trailers series.
In its honest trailer for Zootopia, the majority of Screen Junkie’s criticisms and nitpickings seem to be very lighthearted in nature. In fact the trailer often highlights Zootopia’s strong points, including the movie’s penchant for addressing important social issues like racism, sexism, stereotyping, and xenophobia. Zootopia’s successful approach of tackling these societal issues, as well as its hilarity and good storytelling, made it difficult to generate genuine criticisms the movie. However the trailer did point out the fact that Zootopia does have some stereotypical animals in the film, such as slow sloths and cunning weasels. The trailer also takes a dig at the lack of creative pun names and the fact that the animals seem to lack anatomy.
