Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is one of the more intriguing movie sequels set to be released into theaters sometime in the near future. It is, obviously, the sequel to the original 2013 hit Pacific Rim.
The reason the first Pacific Rim did well was because of the huge intake it hard overseas, raking in around $300 million, compared to the $100 million it made in the U.S. upon the first release. Naturally with that success the idea for a sequel was all but an inevitably, however there are some changes. First and foremost, Guillermo Del Toro will not be returning to direct and the two new leads will be John Boyega and Scott Eastwood. Cailee Spaeny and Jing Tian were also added to the new project.
But now a new development seems to have taken place as the studio has announced that Levi Meaden will also be joining the cast for the sequel. Meaden is not a very big name in Hollywood at this time because he is only just getting started on a career, but he has already made some television appearances such as on the shows Legends of Tomorrow, iZombie, The 100 and Aftermath, the one he is most well known for.
While adding Meaden will be likely be a good addition, there is the fact that the casting department has opted to go with a younger actors during this process. For example, both Boyega and Eastwood are younger but have some other things added to their acting resume, namely Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Suicide Squad, respectively. Jing Tian, on the other hand, has established a bit more in her resume but will no doubt be a fine addition to the overall cast.
The process of pre-production for the film is set to start in November and even with Boyega being a big name for the film, the fact that other names like Idris Elba and del Toro will not be returning does still stand out to crowds. Also in mind is the fact that expectations for the sequel may be lower but if the movie turns out to be a massive success then this could definitely make the sequel stand out more.
