Geoffrey Cone’s Take on the Feature on External Trusts

Although the media presents the idea of foreign trusts as such a sweet thing to the New Zealand’s economy, truth is that it is unexciting just like the tax-related things are. Geoffrey Cone, a professional in tax and trust law issues expresses that in the list of tax havens, New Zealand does not, has never and might never feature. The so-called tax havens are characterized by imposition of no or insignificant taxes, secretive banking systems and no transparency is exercised.

Having been in the market since 1980, Geoffrey has witnessed New Zealand demonstrate transparency in handling the foreign trusts, with provision of relevant information as may be required by other governments in need. To enhance trustworthiness, powers were enacted in 2011 whereby all relevant records in New Zealand must be clearly recorded in English failure to which it attracts hefty fines.
