Will ‘Jupiter Ascending’ Be the Next ‘The Matrix’?
Although Lana and Andy Wachowski have been busy over the past few years with films like “V for Vendetta,” “Speed Racer” and “Cloud Atlas” on their resumes, they haven’t reached the same level of critical acclaim and public approval they experienced after 1999’s “The Matrix” when Lana was still “Larry” and they were known as the Wachowski Brothers.
Some moviegoers like Jared Haftel have wondered if a change in overall direction with the plots of their movies is to blame. One criticism of “The Matrix Revolutions,” that was revisited with “Cloud Atlas,” is that their plots have become too complex. Additionally, some wonder if certain critics and fans don’t approve of Lana’s status as a transgender woman. These and many other reasons are now being considered as the public starts to wonder if Wachowski’s latest endeavor, “Jupiter Rising” will live up to “The Matrix.”
In fact, certain scenes immediately bring to mind another popular Sci-Fi film from the late 90’s, “The Fifth Element,” directed by Luc Besson.
Can a plot about a housekeeper turned into a reincarnated princess from another world who’s tasked with saving Earth drive enough positive buzz upon release that viewers will flock to theaters and beg for more?
Moviegoers will have to wait until February 2015 to find out.
